The short answer
A smart water shutoff valve is fitted to your home's main line and can close automatically. Paired with leak sensors, it alerts your phone and stops the water when a problem is detected.
It matters most when nobody is home: a burst supply line can otherwise run for hours or days before anyone notices.
What the valve does
A motorized valve sits on the main water line and responds to signals from leak sensors or unusual-flow monitoring. Depending on the setup, you can also close it remotely from your phone.
Where protection starts
Sensors belong near the washing machine, water heater, sump area, under sinks and around other fixtures most likely to leak. Main-line monitoring adds another layer by looking for water use that does not match normal household patterns.
What installation involves
